This new addition to the complex, which belongs to the folks behind Garlic and Black Pepper, has undertaken nominal renovations. The slightly too large tables are still outside and the same raw furnishings remain within. The most notable addition is a woodfired grill adorning the back corner and a few extra notches of volume on the sound system pumping out house beats.
The grill produces Flames’ signature woodfired lamb, which stars in all five signature options on the menu. A traditional woodfire kebab (RMB38) comes in DIY form as a single skewer of succulent and delicately spiced lamb alongside a couple of tandoori breads and a bowl of diced tomato. It’s somewhat lacking in content considering the convoluted presentation. A much better option would be the woodfire wrap (RMB76), essentially the kebab’s bigger brother featuring similar ingredients in wider abundance.
